Are You Judging Your Performance on One Variable?
Remember algebra class?
To balance an equation, you had to isolate the variable. Cross the bridge. Change the sign.
Not my favorite class either, but it did teach me something: perspective matters.
In math, just like in real estate, to get the right outcome, you sometimes need to shift your approach and look at the full picture.
But here’s what I see all too often:
Agents stuck in single-variable thinking.
☑ One bad showing = “I’m failing.”
☑ One lost listing = “I’m not good at this.”
☑ One quiet week = “Maybe I’m not cut out for this.”
But just like elite performers in sports, success in real estate is never about just one thing.
I think of one of my close friends from my competitive gymnastics days. She would beat herself up over one missed landing even after nailing every other routine. But when we zoomed out and looked at everything that went right?
✔ Her form was flawless.
✔ Her power was there.
✔ Her mindset was strong.
✔ The crowd and judges noticed her presence.
✔ She showed up under pressure.
She wasn’t failing, she was growing.
And the same goes for you.
Real estate is multi-variable. One moment doesn’t define your entire career.
So next time you're tempted to judge your day, your week, or yourself based on one deal, one conversation, or one dry spell, zoom out.
Look at your effort.
Look at your consistency.
Look at your growth, your mindset, your leadership, your relationships.
You are not one missed deal.
You are a full equation and the sum is pretty incredible.
